A legendary actor has passed away at the age of 87.

Renowned character actor Charles Dierkop, famed for his role as George “Flat Nose” Curry in the classic Western film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, has passed away at the age of 87. Dierkop’s daughter Lynn confirmed that he died on Sunday, February 25, at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles due to complications from a heart attack and pneumonia.

Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1936, Dierkop served in the US military during the Korean War before pursuing a career in acting. He studied at the American Foundation of Dramatic Arts in Philadelphia and later ventured to Hollywood in search of opportunities.

Dierkop’s notable roles include appearances alongside Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting. He also starred alongside Angie Dickinson in the police procedural series Police Woman.

Dierkop once attributed his success in securing the role of Flat Nose Curry to his distinctive broken nose, which he believed lent authenticity to his portrayal of an outlaw. He was married to Joan Addis from 1958 until 1974, with whom he had two children: a son named Charles Jr., who passed away at the age of 29, and a daughter named Lynn.
